  1. In my opinion, I think Shakespeare is a man. The plays written by him were definitely masterpieces; however, women at that time were not allow to be educated. Only men had chances to study. Therefore, it is reasonable to think that William Shakespeare is a male.

  4. Most people think that Shakespeare is a man. However, the result I search from the Internet made me surprised. It says that Shakespeare may be a woman named Mary Sidney. She was also a poet, and one of the women who had the highest level of education. Mary once formed a literary circle, and saw to upgrade English literature as its mission. When I finished reading the article of Mary Sidney, I tended to believe that Shakespeare is a woman.

  5. I think that it doesn’t matter whether Shakespeare was a men or a woman. Shakespeare left lots of masterpieces. Nobody denies the status of Shakespeare on the literature. So it is unnecessary for us to argue the true gender of Shakespeare.

  6. well, i think Shakespeare is a woman. There are lots of mysteries left after Shakespeare died. First, the sonnet written by Shakespeare was mostly for young men. Second, the first script published in 1623 was for Earl of Pembroke and Montgomery. There are still lots of mysteries , however, no matter Shakespeare is a woman or a man, the artworks he left are more important than his/her gender.

  7. To my instinct, I prefer Shakespeare as a men.Not due to my gender, but the huge stage he create in his tragedy. However, after watching the sonnets written by Willian, I couldn't wonder if a male can depict such sentimental atmosphere. The words are so tender, the scene is so elegant. Then I doubted that Shakespeare must be female.

  8. Well, it's no matter that Shakespeare is a "he" or "she",it would not affect his status as a literary author in nowadays. yet, I perfer Shakespear is a woman. Why? Beacause if it is true, the life of Shakespeare might be very mysterious and very interesting. It is no doubt that in that age, woman has no status. And so how can Shakespear spread his masterpieces to the world ,and how can he become so famous? The answer might be a perfect story in astonishment and I think it the answer can really interest me.

Shakespeare has given us interesting women, but they are all seen from a male point of view. It’s a thoughtful view, but it is still an outsider’s view. Had Shakespeare been a female, she would have revealed more deeply the inner workings of a woman’s mind.

Shakespeare was certainly male. He does, however exhibit a strong sensitivity to the feminine point of view in the creation of many of his characters including Paulina in The Winter's Tale and Constance in King John. Some might consider that this is evidence that, in the modern parlance, his sex may have been male but his gender was female.
